If you are interested in hiring a family law attorney to either represent you with reaching a lawyer negotiated settlement or in the collaborative law process, an initial meeting will be scheduled during which we will discuss the differences in the processes and which one best meets the needs of you and your family.
You may not know which process will work best for you. The choice of the process if very important and should not be taken lightly. I am available to meet with you to explain the different choices available in pursuing a separation, divorce, custody resolution, and other family law matters. At the first meeting, I will gather information from you about your current situation and I will review the different processes that are available. I will answer questions that you may have about how to proceed and we will develop a plan for moving forward to the next step in the process when you are ready to do so.
Upon your decision to retain me, I will provide you with a quote of my hourly rate and a retainer payment which is required to begin my representation of you. I will provide you with a retainer agreement that we will both sign which explains the terms of your engagement of my services.
Please note: My practice is focused on assisting clients in reaching settlement of their family law matters. I do not represent clients in contested litigation (if the client is unable to reach a settlement through mediation and/or attorney assisted negotiation) and if it comes to that point, I will refer you to a litigation attorney to represent you. This rarely becomes necessary because the majority of clients who choose an out-of-court process for resolving their disputes are typically successful in reaching a settlement of their own choosing.
